:::Confirmed Artists:::

Joel Tepp

Joel Tepp is a familiar face as a multi-instrument accompanist at Northwest concerts, in California, Kerrville and beyond. He has regularly added his slide guitar, harmonica and clarinet stylings to the music of Bonnie Raitt, Little Feat, Danny O'Keefe, Iain Matthews, Spencer Davis, Caroline Aiken and many others. In addition to these artists, his recording credits include Jerry Garcia, Crazy Horse, John David Souther, Kate and Anna McGarrigle, several major films, television shows and much more. In his early years, he learned from the masters, not through recordings but by accompanying them on tour and gaining his musical knowledge face to face, one on one. His teachers and departed friends include Johnny Shines, Bukka White, Earl Hooker, John Lee Hooker, Sippi Wallace, Magic Sam and Shakey Jake.

“Joel is a tremendous musician, very inventive, innovative, creative and versatile.” “He has a great deal of musical depth, particularly in a historical sense (and)… he can play a wide range of styles on any of his instruments.”
Danny O’Keefe

“Joel Tepp was simply incredible on guitar, harmonica and clarinet (his harmonica was a show stopper!).”

Kym Tuvim

With a voice that “is out of this world” (Green Man Review), Kym Tuvim has won over audiences and critics alike since Cake Records released her 1998 eponymous debut, subsequently selected as a "Top 12 DIY"
release by The Performing Songwriter Magazine and featured on their 6th CD compilation.

Her follow up, On The Mend, brought another critical nod, this time from Acoustic Guitar Magazine as a Top 5 Pick of 2003.

Additional songwriting honors include VH-1’s Song of the Year (Finalist, 2004), WCS International Song Contest (2nd Place, 2004) and the Plowshares Songwriting Contest (Finalist, 2003).

In performance, she has brought her rich fusion of folk, jazz and pop to venues across the country from The Tractor Tavern in her home-town of Seattle to The Bluebird Cafe in Nashville and Club Passim in Boston, sharing the stage with artists including Edie Carey, Kris Delmhorst, Holly Figueroa, Girlyman and Peter Mulvey.

From Indie-Music.com: “Understated brilliance…in Tuvim’s music, [there’s] a strange sense of everything
being in the right place that can only come from honesty and authenticity in songwriting.”

Michael writes a monthly column on playing the Open Mic Circuit - called "The Ramblin' Mike" for the Victory Review Magazine.

³On Conscious Collective, Seattle's Michael Guthrie provides us with more than just an eclectic mix of folk, blues and jazz. Whether commenting on US foreign policy, as in Military Coup, or talking about relationships as in Love Me Like a Friend, Guthrie's passion for his fellow man shines through. His guitar playing is superb throughout. He can switch from one guitar style to another with little effort. Check out the jazzy stylings of Bloom'n and the steel sounds on Look'n at the World. MichaelGuthrie has produced a CD that is both entertaining and thought provoking. I'm glad somebody is still doing that².

Eva Tree

Eva Tree is an alt-folk singer-songwriter who delivers soulful roots and jazz with occasional country grooves
and bluesy overtones. She has performed her original music in and around Seattle since 1998 at cafes,
galleries, wine bars, house concerts, benefits, weddings and festivals.

Prior to living in Seattle, Eva toured internationally with The Pink Flamingos, a 14-piece show band based in
Albuquerque, NM. Eva sang lead and backup vocals and did dance choreography with the Flamingos. The material
was eclectic and full of variety, covering tunes from Evita and the Phantom of the Opera, to classic rock, disco, and
country line dances.

From 1992 to 1994, Eva studied as a vocal major at Selkirk College of music in Nelson, BC, with jazz vocalist
Cheryl Hodge. Prior to her studies there, she sang and performed with the Universal Gospel Choir in Vancouver,
BC. During this time she also performed with the guitar-vocal duo, Brimstone and Treacle.

"...This group can and should go national in my opinion. Eva sings her intelligent lyrics with great sensitivity and feeling, in a style not unlike that of K.D. Lang. There is strength to this music, which can be deeply personal and noble as well....Folks, go hear this band and buy their music and I promise that you’ll be glad you did."
Mary Golnick - Victory Review

Scott Andrew

From his fortress of solitude in the Pacific Northwest, performing songwriter Scott Andrew delivers scruffy, lo-fi acoustic pop with underdog bravado.

Despite three independent releases and the occasional lucky opening slot for a national touring act, he stubbornly clings to his day job at a Very Large Corporation.

Listeners compare Scott to artists like Peter Mulvey, Shawn Mullins and Matt Nathanson.

**Finalist - 2001 Unisong International Song Competition, Folk/Country category

**Nominee - 2003 Just Plain Folks Best Live Performer

Paul Benoit

Paul Benoit has been playing music in the Seattle area and touring for almost twenty years. He's performed and recorded with numerous songwriters including Dan Bern, Reggie Garrett and Laura Love. After studying music and literature at the University of Washington, Paul joined the band Crosseyed, an electric/acoustic roots rock group which released two albums and toured throughout the western U.S. with its popular, high energy shows.

In 1997, Paul co-founded a band called Hanuman, a four piece all-acoustic instrumental ensemble. The eclectic nature of this new band, blending jazz, bluegrass, country and rock'n'roll with African beats, prompted Paul to experiment with new musical styles and instruments. He travelled throughout Asia, Europe, Latin America, and India studying instruments such as the sitar and the Indian slide guitar. Hanuman released four albums, sold over 8,000 recordings and toured the U.S., playing at clubs, festivals, and theaters, up to 200 dates a year. In 2001, the band received Best Touring Band and Best Album awards from Sounds of Seattle and was voted best new band by the Seattle Weekly. In 2004, various members reformed as The Hanuman Collective and recorded another CD.

In 2002, Paul recorded an eleven song solo CD whose title, "Dopamine," was inspired by the neurotransmitter. The album is a moody exploration of emotion, from love to loneliness, and draws on the style of Americana traditions such as folk, blues, country and pop. Paul's songwriting and sound continues to evolve with the lush and complex arrangements of his second CD, "Combustible." The album features veterans of the first CD (Bill Malloy on bass, Dan Weber on drums), and other talented Northwest musicians, including Dan Tyack on pedal steel, Darren Loucas on lap steel and Lewi Longmire on Hammond organ. Paul continues to perform with his band and solo throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Barbara Buckland

Writer/singer/musician living in Seattle, WA. Influenced by everything, Barbara has a great love for the mystery of self-expression. During her formative years popular music transitioned from beat to soul to surf to the British Invasion to psychedelic to folk and back again. She tends toward music that is dark, moody, visceral.

Enjoys answering the question, "What if?" whenever possible.

Likes promoting other musicians and has done music management, most notably punk poet Steven J. Bernstein.
